Westbury Park Area Guide

One of the most affluent areas of the city, Westbury Park is situated just to the east of the rolling Durdam Downs, between the districts of Redland and Henleaze. Residential accommodation here is beautiful, and comprises mainly Victorian, Georgian and early twentieth-century architecture – think bayed windows, high ceilings and beautiful brickwork. Properties here mainly consist of converted flats and semi-detached houses.

Steeped in history, many of the properties still carry their original house names and it has been stated that many fascinating Victorian artefacts have been found in gardens in the Westbury Park area.

You’re close to lots of things to do in Westbury Park. Head over to Old Quarry Park in the northern part of the suburb for a fun day out with the kids or go slightly further east to the famous Durdham Downs. An excellent place to visit all year round, go hunting for conkers in the autumn or laze about on the grass in the summer. Fancy seeing the sights? Visit the observatory and see the famous camera obscura (www.cliftonobservatory.com) or go deep into the caves for a truly unforgettable day out.

There’s a good range of places to eat and drink in Westbury Park. Head to Café 96 for a casual coffee, or try out the Westbury Park Tavern for a proper good meal – this was also one of the filming locations for BBC cult sitcom The Young Ones.

The area has a lovely range of small shops and amenities, perfect for any shopping excursions, or you could always pop over to Clifton Village for a wider retail experience!

There are also lots of good schools in Westbury Park and its surrounding areas – including Westbury Park Primary, Badminton School for Girls, Redmaids’ School and St Ursula’s High School.

Should you ever need to get into the city centre, it’s a cinch – there are regular bus stops dotted around the area, or you could head over to the Clifton Down Station for access to the rest of Bristol.
